The Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship is a global competition that tests students’ skills on Microsoft Office applications.
In 2015 two students will win the trip of a lifetime to represent the UK at the final round of the Championship in Dallas, Texas from August 9th to 12th. Last year’s Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship attracted more than 400,000 unique candidates from 130 countries who competed to demonstrate their mastery of Microsoft Office products. 123 student finalists participated in the final round of competition.
The UK has a great recent history in the MOS World Championship with 3 Winners in the last 5 years. In Washington D.C. in 2013 Kieran Youngman (from Sawtry Community College) was crowned World Champion for MOS Word, while in San Diego in 2011, Rebecca Rickwood (also from Sawtry Community College) was named World Champion for MOS Excel. Most recently in 2014, Certiport named Hannah Wilson (also from Sawtry Community College) as the Third Place Winner for MOS Word.

To participate*, students must first take and pass a qualifying Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exam in Word or Excel (2010 or 2013) during one of the two Qualifying Rounds to be eligible for invitation to the UK & Ireland Regional Final in June 2015.
- First Qualifying Round (October 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014)
10 students from around the UK will be chosen using the “top-score method” (highest exam score and lowest exam-taking time) in Word and Excel to qualify for the UK Final in June 2015.

- UK Final (June 17, 2015)
The UK Final will bring together the 20 finalists (selected from the two Qualifying Rounds) at an event hosted by Microsoft UK on June 17, 2015. Finalists will sit a further MOS exam in their qualifying category and the two UK Champions will be determined based on these results.
