MTA Exams & Retirements Update

In January we announced two new Microsoft Technology Associate exams: MTA Windows Devices and Mobility Fundamentals and MTA Cloud Fundamentals. The exams went live January 5, 2015 and are designed to better support the core IT Infrastructure area of study.

  • NEW! 98-368: Mobility and Device Fundamentals
    Replaces 98-349: Windows Operating System Fundamentals (Retiring July 31, 2016)
  • NEW! 98-369: Cloud Fundamentals
    Help students learn the essentials of cloud computing technologies.

Learning Solutions

Publishers are now starting to release learning solutions (textbooks, practice tests) for these new exams – the latest availability information is as follows:

  • Wiley MOAC Textbooks
    Titles for each of the above new MTA exams are expected to be available in August 2015. 
    Sample chapters for both titles are available below. 
  • MeasureUp Practice Tests
    Titles for each of the above new MTA exams are expected to be available by September 2015.

Reminder: Upcoming MTA Retirements

Microsoft has announced that the below listed MTA exams will be retiring on July 31, 2015.

  • 98-363: Web Development Fundamentals
    Suggested Replacement: 98-375: HTML5 Application Development Fundamentals
  • 98-372: Microsoft .NET Fundamentals
    Suggested Replacement: 98-361: Software Development Fundamentals
  • 98-374: Gaming Development Fundamentals
    Suggested Replacement: 98-375: HTML5 Application Development Fundamentals

Additionally, the retirement date for the below exam has been updated to July 31, 2016:

  • 98-349: Windows Operating System Fundamentals
    Suggested Replacement: 98-368: Mobility and Device Fundamentals

These exam retirements and replacements are designed to ensure that the MTA certifications remain current with technology advances and relevant to high-demand industry career tracks.

If an exam that is part of a certification you earned is retired, your certification is still valid. When an exam you passed is retired, the exam record remains on your transcript.If you’re working toward a certification that includes one of the exams listed for retirement, please be sure to take the exam prior to the retirement date. Allow time for a retake if necessary.

Irish Student Rohan Vargas has won the title of Microsoft Office Specialist Word World Champion in California, USA. The 16 year old student from CBS Kilkenny has taken home a cheque for $7,000 and the winning title.
