Southern Cross University (SCU), one of Australia’s most forward-thinking institutions, is embedding globally recognised industry certifications into academic programs. In partnership with Prodigy Learning utilising Microsoft certification, SCU is equipping its diverse student body with the skills and credentials required for today’s dynamic workforce.
Following a successful pilot in 2025, the university is scaling its certification initiatives to cover more in-demand skills from 2026 onward.
Pilot Program Sets the Stage for Long-Term Success
The 2025 pilot focused on integrating AZ-900 Microsoft Azure Fundamentals into core academic offerings, supporting both local and international learners with real-world skill development.
Students participated in structured learning pathways supported by Prodigy Learning’s solution, including access to official practice tests and certification exams. The pilot saw strong student engagement and positive momentum, laying a strong foundation for the university’s certification roadmap.
Technology-Enabled Learning That Works
SCU leveraged GMetrix Skills Management System to deliver seamless access to practice materials across multiple campuses in Australia and abroad, ensuring a consistent and scalable student experience. Multiple Certiport test centres were set up across campuses in Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney and online, giving students the flexibility to choose their preferred locations to take the certification exam.
The pilot also helped align systems and processes ahead of broader rollout plans. Enhancements like Single Sign-On (SSO) are being implemented in 2026 to streamline user access and reduce administrative overhead, giving educators more direct control and flexibility.
Looking Ahead: Expansion in 2026
Building on the pilot’s success, SCU is significantly expanding its certification offerings starting in 2026, with a focus on preparing students for in-demand roles across technology and business sectors.
New certifications launching in 2026 may include but are not limited to:
SC-900: Microsoft Security, Compliance & Identity Fundamentals
DP-900: Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals
AI-900: Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals

Events like Prodigy Learning’s Test Fest for Educators and Microsoft’s Microsoft Learn for Educators Onboarding Process have been well received, with SCU educators actively engaging in professional development opportunities that enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
