The University of Huddersfield (UoH) is one of the UK’s top Higher Education Institutions, tracing its roots back to the founding of the Huddersfield Scientific and Mechanical Institute in 1825. In 1992 Huddersfield Polytechnic officially became The University of Huddersfield and has since won numerous awards, including the Times Higher Education (THE) University of the Year award in 2013 and more recently the THE Best University Workplace in 2014.
The University continues to invest in its campus to ensure students have access to the best possible facilities. In January 2014, the new £22.5m Student Central building was opened which provides students and staff with a unique hub combining easier access to library, computing, sport, leisure, eating, social and meeting facilities.
UoH School of Art, Design and Architecture has recently implemented the Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) qualification for students throughout the School, offering them the opportunity to gain further employability skills with a globally recognised qualification, in addition to their first class degree programme.
Stephen Calcutt (Winner of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) Technician of the Year for Art and Design, and Technical Manager Coordinator of the UoH School of Art, Design and Architecture) said: “We have been looking for a suitable enrichment qualification for our students for some time, and with Adobe being the leading software package that most of our students will use in their professional careers, ACA made perfect sense. We are increasingly aware that employers are looking for vendor qualifications such as ACA in addition to a degree and from our students’ point of view this adds fantastic extra value for their fees”.
Andrew Lenehan (Regional Account Manager, Prodigy Learning) noted: “Adobe ACA certification is very much in demand from employers in the creative industries. Students graduating from a top university like Huddersfield will now have the opportunity to gain a competitive edge in the jobs market after graduation.“
“Vendor qualifications such as Adobe ACA are becoming more and more important to employers and Huddersfield are leading the way in ensuring that their students have the best chance of gaining that all-important first role after graduation. The School of Art, Design and Architecture currently boasts an impressive 95.8% graduate employment* and this kind of forward thinking is one of the reasons it comes as no surprise that Huddersfield were last year named THE University of the Year.”
